至 Jimbirch : Because the slipper (and plimsoll) was a traditional implement of discipline in the UK, and far more bottoms felt one that felt any other implement. Also when used correctly the slipper can hurt a lot, I've known women who could take the cane, but not a slipper or plimsoll.
